Standardizing Water Treatment Systems
At Dynamic Water Technologies, I joined a team that had nearly no drawings for the production team to follow. This, unsurprisingly, resulted in each treatment system that was sold, built, and installed differing from the unit before it and lead to exceptional challenges in DWT's manufacturing shop as well as on customer sites.
My initial role as a drafter involved as-built documentation of the systems that the seasoned production team was building from 'tribal knowledge'. This task involved creating detailed manufacturing drawings for cut, welded, & machined assemblies made from steel and HDPE. Assembly drawings for complete units were also needed.
Just as there was no standardization for manufacturing, none existed for drawings. Title blocks, BOM tables, drawing numbering structure, and standard practices needed to be established concurrent with making hundreds of small and large design decisions.
